Dr Kate Stringer is a specialist Breast and Endocrine Surgeon. She specialises in the management of:

  • Breast cancer, utilising oncoplastic techniques.
  • Assessment of Breast Cancer Risk / Familial Breast Cancer.
  • Benign breast disease.
  • Thyroid surgery  including complex cases and neck dissections for thyroid cancer.
  • Parathyroid surgery including minimally invasive parathyroidectomy.  

Dr Stringer is a graduate of the University of Queensland Medical School. She undertook surgical training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and received her Fellowship in General Surgery in 2006.

During this period she developed a passion for the treatment of breast and thyroid cancer. As a result Dr Stringer undertook subspecialty training as the Ramsay Breast and Endocrine Surgical Fellow. During her fellowship year she was trained in breast cancer treatment and complex thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Dr Stringer was then employed as a consultant General, Breast and Endocrine Surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital from 2008 until 2014.

Dr Stringer has been with Brisbane Breast and Endocrine Surgeons since 2009. She consults and operates at the Wesley Hospital, St Vincent’s Northside Private Hospital and Northwest Private Hospital. These 3 hospitals are ideally suited to Breast and Endocrine surgery, they have the most up to date equipment and services, experienced nursing and allied health teams and are all focused on providing the best hospital experience and outcomes for patients.

Dr Stringer is involved in research and has published articles in peer review journals. She is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group. She attends national and international conferences to remain up to date in the management of Breast and Endocrine conditions. She also offers consultative services to the Wesley Breast Clinic and Breast Screen Queensland.

Dr Stringer is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and a Clinical Tutor for Bond and Griffith Medical Schools. She finds the training of medical students very rewarding.

Dr Stringer is a founding member of the Multidisciplinary Team meetings at the Wesley Hospital and St Vincent’s Northside Private Hospital. During these meeting she liases with specialist medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, geneticists and breast care nurses to obtain the best care and outcomes for her patients.

Dr Stringer is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Australian Medical Association, General Surgeons Australia, BreastSurgANZ, Australian and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group, Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons and the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons.
